Art and the act of making are inseparable from my

sense of self. I started Smithworks as a way to work toward

my ideals. I wanted to create a space to invite friends, family, and clients

into, in which they could see my work and experience my sensibility.

I decided to have my studio in my own backyard so that it was not

separate from me. It is a place where I work, play, and

think. Being close to my family, being able to take care of my home,

and being a good steward to the environment were large in informing this

decision. This setup also keeps my cost of operations low, making my hand-crafted,

one-of-a-kind work more affordable, and accessible to anyone who values such things.

My aesthetic is always evolving, and is informed by every job I do,

and by every one who commissions work from me. I hope to build

ongoing relationships, doing bodies of work over time for clients,

and begin to blur the lines between friends, family, and clients.
