making a meat hook

One of the perks of being a blacksmith is the ability to make the tools that you need to do specific tasks. The possibilities for tooling up are endless and provide opportunities for some creative problem solving.

Here Jason walks us through how to make a meat hook - bottle opener combo. From his home workshop in Decatur, Georgia, Jason shows us his process for forming 5/8” solid square steel into a tool that can be used to pick up and flip steaks on one end and pop the top off a beer on the other end. There’s probably no better grilling companion.

If you’re interested in making a tool of your own, sign up for a class. Our classes help fund the mentorship program we provide through our non-profit Tradeswork. By learning blacksmithing techniques, you’re also providing an opportunity for others to get a chance to learn and develop their skills in the trade.
